Description

Lucien Clergue started in the world of photography at a very young age. On April 5, 1953, he met Picasso in a bullfight in Arles and took the opportunity to photograph him and show him other snapshots of his work. Two years later, they met again in La Californie, the artist's home in Cannes. Thus began a friendship that would last until Picasso's death in 1973. The affection and harmony between the two led to the photographic recording of small episodes of Picasso's life, scenes that took place in time and that they would end up narrating a part of the artist’s existence from the perspective of the photographer friend.

Lucien Clergue went on to become an internationally recognized photographer. His work has been exhibited in nearly 80 exhibitions around the world and is in essential collections such as the MoMA in New York and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. The exhibit includes very significant photographs in the artistic awakening of photographer Lucien Clergue. This year, the museum will exhibit all the photographs, almost six hundred, and will do so with an emphasis on the photographer's gaze.
