Description

Sounds surround us, accompany us, annoy us, remind us. They guide us where we are, open up new horizons or warn us of dangers. They scare us, they amuse us. The great composers of all time used the sounds of their environment: sounds of nature, sound memories.

The idea of this musical cycle, curated by Declassified, is to open our ears to the sounds (and also to silence) that surround us and see how current and historical composers use that inspiration when creating.

Great representatives of a cappella art, the six Norwegian singers come to Madrid to present a program that includes works inspired by sounds of nature from various eras. Formed in 1996, the Nordic Voices vocal ensemble is made up of 6 singers graduated from the Norwegian Academy of Music and the Norwegian Academy of Opera, who in addition to their singing background have extensive experience from choral conducting, teacher training and composition. It is perhaps this variety in interests that leads them to explore a broader spectrum of musical expression than usual.

His repertoire ranges from plainchant to new works commissioned from Norwegian composers, from the most sacred of religious texts to secular music. Nordic Voices enjoy mixing their programs to the extreme. He has also explored the world of electronics, with works that exploit not only electronic amplification but also sampling, mixing and video art.

The ensemble also has a strong interest in experimentation and research in vocal art. Nordic Voices can produce a wide range of techniques from classical sounds to Mongolian overtone chants. Nordic Voices is, in short, an unusual mix of sophisticated musical creation and elegant performance, most often with a dash of humour. In addition to their regular concerts in Oslo and around Norway, concert tours have taken them to South America, Spain, Germany and the United States.
