- The photobook is the star of the weekend with the tenth edition of Fever Photobook Fest and a program full of activities, conferences and exhibitions Madrid, September 20, 2022 The CentroCentro Crystal Gallery, in the Palacio de Cibeles, becomes the national meeting point around the photobook from September 23 to 25.

Fiebre Photobook Fest, the first and only festival in Spain specialized in photobooks, celebrates its tenth edition in this space of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Madrid City Council, with a three-day program dedicated to photobooks, their creators and your readers.

Play Fever! will be the leitmotif of this edition and the dynamics of the game, based on a creative and innovative learning model, will become the common thread. Since 2013, Fever has established itself as an annual meeting point dedicated to creators, students, professionals and new audiences who share a great passion for discovering, creating, producing and collecting photobooks. A unique opportunity to meet current creators in person, discover new titles at the fair and at the exhibitions and enjoy the activities around this format.

The exhibition Public Photography. The sixties / The Sixties, which can be seen on the 4th floor of CentroCentro until October 2, and its curator, Horacio Fernández, will star in various activities of the festival program, thus merging historical research with an overview of current production , becoming the photobook in absolute protagonist of the weekend in the center.

Fair The fair is the main axis of the festival, with a wide variety of photobooks from publishers and self-publishers, also in magazine and fanzine format. In this edition it will have the presence of participants from different countries, such as Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, USA, Argentina, Chile or Turkey among others. In addition, a selection of virtual tables can be visited on the online platform in an extended manner until December 31, with publications highlighted by specialized curators. Talks + Talking Books + BookJockey Session One of the strong points of the festival's program is the opportunity for readers to get closer to their favorite authors through talks, round tables and Talking Books sessions, express format photobook presentations.

This year, Horacio Fernández will coordinate three round tables linked to the exhibition that he has curated at CentroCentro, a meeting will be held around the National Center of Photography, the winners of the Fotocanal award and the Fiebre Dummy Award will participate, as well as various authors such as Miguel Trillo, Estela de Castro, Ricardo Cases, Manuela Lorente, Daniel Mayrit or the platform How to be a Photographer. In addition, there will be a BookJockey session, an experimental format to show and enjoy the photobooks by the photographers Rocío Bueno and Elisa Miralles, accompanied by the poet Esther Ramón. exhibitions Six exhibitions of different dimensions and displays will reflect the panorama of photobook production on an international scale. Six very different visions of the possible ways that photography has to become a photobook: Public Photography.

The Sixties / The Sixties, curated by Horacio Fernández, on the 4th floor of CentroCentro; The Nomadic Island, by Juanan Requena; Photobook Universe: Printed Constellations of Latin America 2019-2022, by Punto de Fuga + Infinitos Lugares in collaboration with Mauro Curti; Harvest 2022, organized by PhotoBook Club Madrid; Paper arm of Sonsoles Company and the TEA Tenerife center; and Fiebre Dummy Award, which will show the six publications that have come to light thanks to this call, and first, the winning photobook of the previous call, Leve, by the Argentine photographer Martín Estol. In addition, a selection of photobooks representative of the authors who have participated in the sixth edition of the Personal Structures biennial of contemporary art, organized by the European Cultural Center, which takes place during the current 59th edition of the Venice Biennale, will be shown.

On the other hand, the Complutense University of Madrid, its students, will have a self-managed table at the fair, to publicize their most recent creations. An experimentation workshop with biomaterials will take place, led by the Coordinator of Sustainability at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Ángel Sesma; and Javier Pérez Iglesias, director of the library of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UCM, will offer a performative talk in which a troupe of photobooks (and other publications) will perform and will tell (and sing) the history of the library of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the UCM. The new image of the festival, fun and dynamic, has been created by Jaime Narváez and Rubén García-Castro from La Troupe.
