Description
In the rich Japanese folklore stories of demons, devils and ghosts abound. After World War II and in wake of American presence on the island, the supernatural narrative was transforming to assimilate the new aesthetic forms that were coming from #Hollywood. Thus, through a process of cultural assimilation that in #Japan acquires very peculiar forms, in just 20 years it moved from the tradition that stood for "Tales of the Pale Moon" (Kenji Mizoguchi, 1953) to the most radical pop mix of "Hausu" ( The Nobuhiko Obayashi, 1977).
In July and August we dedicate the cycle "Postwar Ghosts. First supernatural stories in Japanese cinema" to this period of transformation in Japanese film culture.
8 horror and tragedy films that allow you to observe, starting from paradigmatic popular works, how the culture of a country mutates in times of crisis.
