Description

Chopin was not the first composer to introduce the music of his homeland into the Romantic piano repertoire, but he was certainly the most pivotal. In his mazurkas, polonaises, waltzes, and even his nocturnes, there is an echo of Poland—the lost homeland where a part of his heart and identity resided. Like the Pole, that extraordinary generation of Spanish composers active at the turn of the 20th century eventually gravitated toward Paris, the world capital of music. They, too, incorporated melodies and rhythms from their own memories into their piano writing, forging musical languages capable of soaring without ever severing their roots.
Javier Perianes—a rightful heir to the great Spanish school of piano playing—takes us on a journey through three worlds he knows intimately. Using Chopin’s Romanticism as a touchstone, and marking the 150th anniversary of his birth, he reveals a lesser-known side of Manuel de Falla: the young pianist who had not yet fully unleashed the expansive composer he would become, yet who shines and surprises (listen to *Canción* and try not to think of Satie). Alongside him stands Isaac Albéniz and his *Iberia*—a musical monument created by a composer who painted landscapes, transcending mere anecdote or local color.

Manuel de Falla: Nocturno / Mazurka / Serenata Andaluza / Canción / Cuatro Piezas Españolas (Aragonesa, Cubana, Montañesa, Andaluza)
Frédéric Chopin: Nocturne, Op. 27 No. 2 / Mazurka, Op. 7 No. 2 / Mazurka, Op. 67 No. 1 / Waltz, Op. 34 No. 2 / Berceuse
Isaac Albéniz: Iberia (Selection: Evocación, El Polo, Almería, Triana)
