Description
Premiered at the last Almagro International Classical Theater Festival, Paco Mir brings us this hilarious and free version of El perro del hortelano. The member of Tricicle poses a vibrant theater exercise within the theater through an original dramatic structure in which several plots are superimposed and feedback throughout the performance. In the first, two technicians from a company that was supposed to represent Lope's classic are forced to carry out the show alone, without scenery or costumes, accompanied by two actresses they have just met.
This crazy story is used by Mir to stage the original work, the palatine entanglement that narrates the back and forth love affairs of Diana, Countess of Belflor, and her secretary Teodoro de ella. His reading –respectful of the original metric– uses empty space, visual ingenuity, to recreate all the halls, gardens and churches that are described throughout the work in a tribute to the Golden Age way of doing things and, at the same time, to the difficulties of itinerant companies to get out of trouble in the face of any contingency. Humour, rhythm and imagination for a fast-paced express version of the masterpiece of the Fénix de los Ingenios.
"From the anecdote of the proverb we can always learn, but it is little compared to Lope's desire to be liked. The puns and the scenic vision of his verses transmit joy to us. Like most classics, he tells us that The important thing is to do things right."
