Description

In a mining town in the Andean highlands, a horrible event has taken place.
Sonia demands from Franklin, the union leader of the mine, the body of her son and assured that they killed him to
perform the wajtacha rite: the sacrificial service to the Uncle of the Mine, a kind of deity that is somewhere between diabolical and protective that the miners venerate.
Franklin does not want to believe such horror and tries to convince Sonia to give up searching for the body, but, after the woman's complaints, he agrees to dig up the child and bury him in sacred ground.
From that moment on, a constant number of accidents are triggered, as well as the discovery of a very rich mineral vein that enriches all the miners.
Everyone except Franklin himself, whose sense of reality and justice forces him to stay in the mine, to stay with Uncle.

THE WORK
GOD AND THE DEVIL FROM UNDER THE EARTH
The wajtacha consists of sacrificing a human being to the uncle of the mine, a kind of devil who presides over the interior of the earth and who must be kept happy so that he does not cause accidents.
Thus, Wajtacha, the work, is a journey into the interior of the earth, a journey from light to shadows, but also a combat: another one, the umpteenth mythical combat between what human beings think is good and what he thinks is evil. Something that, a priori, may be clear but when you enter the belly of the earth everything begins to change and the boundaries between good and evil, God and the devil, begin to become more blurred.

THE MISE-EN-SCENE
For this reason, Wajtacha's staging proposes a combat between light and shadows, reason and emotion, beliefs and atheism.
All the aesthetic elements of the work will thus be subordinated to this struggle, to this conflict between the lighting from the outside and the shadows from the inside. Wajtacha takes place inside the earth, so all the elements of staging, scenery and costumes have to tend to give the image of the great belly of the earth, of Pacha Mama.
Wajtacha develops in the womb of the earth, within the origin and end of the human being: from the mother's womb to the interiorities of the tomb.
