The Californian singer-songwriter Pearl Charles has a special gift for writing melodic indie-pop that, in addition, she knows how to varnish with a discreet but vibrant country tone. He started his career in the garage and lo-fi scenes of Los Angeles, with projects like the duo Driftwood Singers (he was only 18 when he got on that ship), who released two EPs and an LP, this one in 2012, and then She was a member of The Blank Tapes (she was the drums), where her garage-rock managed to attract the attention of Burger Records, who offered to publish a self-titled EP in 2015, in which she plunged into pure sixties garage with a slight touch of psychedelic pop. From there he went, as he captured his first LP, the fine and elegant “Sleepless Dreamer” (2018; this one on Kanine Records), towards a polished country-rock style, a style that he has perfected, between soft vibrations and a way of singing each Sharper and sharper, until he reaches his second album, “Magic Mirror” (2021), in which he injects light touches of disco into the mix, adapting his cosmic Americana to both that terrain and that of soft.rock.
