THEO LAWRENCE

New Orleans was founded as a French colony and its multiculturalism is still plagued of references to French Louisiana and its Cajun heritage. Now let's start the I walk in the opposite direction, and let us follow the trail of the music of the swamps and the rhythmic shaker from the Mississippi to Bordeaux. There we will meet Theo Lawrence, a young French-Canadian independent musician, singer and songwriter. His music buries his roots from the country songs of the 50s and 60s, borrowing elements of soul, pop, and rock n 'roll from the same era. A mix of styles and sounds, made with a deep love for tradition but keeping the pulse of the modern times. There are of course many seasonings from now Louisiana and its effervescent crossroads of cultures; also classic rock n 'roll from which he was born in orbit from Sun Records in Memphis, Johnny's rockabilly country trotting beat Cash and his henchmen, cowboy touches from pioneering country & western outlaws like Marty Robbins or Micky Newbury, Doug Sahm's long border shadow and the Tex-Mex dancing of him, and plenty of echoes of Creedence's 'bayou' onslaught. From the soul and gospel nuances of his first album, ‘Homemade Lemonade’ (2018), Lawrence embraced the mestizo sounds of the American South in ‘Sauce Piquante’ (2019), produced in the heart of Georgia by Mark Neill himself (creator of the 'Brothers' of the Black Keys) and has continued to explore them, with a 'vintage' character, in the most recent singles from him. Something that does not seem to penetrate the vineyard lands of Francia, like himself, as he well expresses in the lyrics of “They Don’t Like Me (Where I Am From) ”:“ They don't come to my concerts / I'm not welcome at the table / They don't laugh of my jokes / Well I guess that's the way it is / They don't want to see me succeed / No taste in my land ”. The archaeologist of "American music" does not think the same and Stratospheric guitarist and songwriter Deke Dickerson. His is the note on the back cover of the album, and his word is law: “Just when I had lost all hope, it reaches my hands navigating the river of music something like this. It seems that there is still a future, it only takes three chords and a young and fertile. If this album isn't a hit, I'll eat my hat! ”. And there is Lawrence, waiting for their moment to come. His newly founded label, Tomika Records, will release all its future productions and will be home to other soul mates who share your same passion for art and recording tradition. Put some hot sauce to your life, mon dieu!
