From 1 to 25 August the 41st edition of the “Sagunt a Escena” festival will take place.
Who said heat when it comes to the anniversary of the Valencian temple of performing arts?
An event that will fill Sagunto with life and also the rest of the city.
For almost a month, you can enjoy theatre, music, dance and circus in every corner, with a programme full of Valencian productions, as well as outstanding national and international names.
What more could you ask for?
Of course, the centre of the festival will continue to be the Roman Theatre, hosting big names, such as the singer Nacho Duato or Valeria Castro.
You can find out the complete programme of the festival on its official website, although here is a preview.
Thursday 1st August – Nacho Duato
The opening will be by Nacho Duato, one of the Valencians with the greatest international projection and his most iconic creations such as «Jardí Tancat», «Duende» and «Na Floresta».
Friday 2nd August – Visitants Company
The renowned street theatre company Visitants will turn on its «Mascletà poética» in the Glorieta, a participatory stage proposal.
Saturday 3rd August – El Brujo
Rafael Álvarez, better known as «El Brujo», will have his space in the Roman Theatre to make you laugh with a reflective monologue on Greek tragedy.
Sunday 4th August – Siroco
Siroco also participates in «Sagunt a Escena» with «L´appel du vide», a circus and theatre show that includes disciplines such as the Korean scale, acrobatic moves and acrodance.
August 7 – Christine Cloux
Christine Cloux makes her solo appearance with «Corps Seul», a performance that vindicates the role of the mature woman in the field of professional dance.
August 8 – Institut Valencià de Cultura
The Institut Valencià de Cultura will make you think with «Les Troianes. Fucking Nowhere», a great theatrical work that questions the responsibility of the western media in the Disneyfication of conflicts.
August 9 – Cía. Anna Mateu
«Arròs» will be one of the works that will have the greatest impact due to its proximity; this piece speaks of all the factors that are endangering the Albufera de València.
August 10 – Valeria Castro
The young singer-songwriter has made her way into the music scene thanks to a prodigious voice and an exquisite sensitivity and Sagunt will be one of the stages for the presentation of her new album, «Con cariño y con cuidado».
August 11 – Bucraa
Bucraa presents a hilarious clown and gesture theatre show, framed in a moving story of love and war, culminating in a “Grand Finale” that gives the work its name.
August 14 – Eduardo Guerrero and Sharon Fridman with Carmen Linares
Eduardo Guerrero and Sharon Fridman bring with them “Jondo”, a story of heartbreak told through dance and five very characteristic characters inspired by Lorca’s literature.
August 15 – Captain Spriki
“The Superb Team” will take to the streets of Valencia with acrobatics, dance, songs and lots of humour.
August 16 – Ganso & Cia
Ganso & Cia will also surprise you with their clown-themed theatre show on the streets of Valencia, which aims to make the theatre profession visible and parody it.
August 17 – Mérida Festival / Pentación / Coribante
Do you know the version of «Medusa», the feared monster with snake hair? Come to Sagunt, where Medusa herself will tell you about it through Victoria Abril with a great play.
August 18 – La Trócola
La Trócola takes you on a true journey to the world of dreams with «R.E.M.», a reflection —in circus style— to think about the aspirations of each one.
August 21 – Llum de fideu
Llum de Fideu will represent «Sfumato», a traveling reflection on the relationships we establish with other species.
August 22 – Mérida Festival / Pentación
Also related to war, the comedy «La Paz» starring Joaquín Reyes and Ángeles Martín, will make you cry with laughter.
23 August – Esther + Colomet Concert
On 23 August, at the Glorieta, the singer-songwriter Esther Querol —a reference of Valencian pop— and Colomet will make their contribution to «Sagunt» with an unforgettable concert.
24 August – Teatre Romea / Grec Festival
«Tirant lo Blanch» is the clear protagonist of this day, a work that tells what it is like to be shipwrecked on the coasts of North Africa and how long the road is to return home.
25 August – La Majara + DJ Madnel
And it's over!
On 25 August, «Sagunt a Escena» ends and it does so in style: with a street party and with the company of DJ Madnel, who will liven up the end of the party with his music.
And all this just half an hour from Valencia, an event that will be the best way to experience summer nights.
You can get your tickets for the performances at the Roman Theatre here, at the Rialto Theatre box office or at the Sagunto Town Hall box office.
Sagunto is waiting for you!
