Description

Teatro del Temple presents
By Federico García Lorca
Written in 1932, Bodas de sangre is based on a real event that occurred in Almería in 1928. It all began with a wedding that the bride did not attend. Shortly afterwards, the corpse of one of her cousins was found and she appeared very close by, with her dress torn.

Lorca, amazed by how life offers us new dramas in an unexpected way, weaves a work in which the passions that make us human come together, from love to suffering, revenge, fear and hatred. The result is a tragedy that gives shape to a Lorca idea: his characters have to be seen "in their bones and blood."

The beauty of his verses makes it the greatest love tragedy written in our language.

From the respect, awareness and humility of those who have learned much but know nothing, Teatro del Temple launches itself into this new challenge, to make a Blood Wedding without references to costumbrismo or the period, but from the timeless beauty that Lorca's poetry suggests to us.

REVIEWS
Sublimate Lorca

Teatro del Temple is committed to taking "the timeless beauty that Lorca's poetry suggests to us" through a very attractive proposal to ensure that the lyrical elements of the text do not ruin the dramatic development of the tragedy (...) The staging and the costumes draw a suggestive visual poetics that places the action in a timeless universe (...) magnificent work by Minerva Arbués (...) a superb Irene Alquezar that defines the tone of the performance (...) All the theatrical resources are oriented to move away from Lorca's costumbrismo and sublimate it.

Lorca's deep roots in the 21st century

The result is brilliant. With actresses in a state of grace and a minimalist but tremendously effective staging (...) it is an agile production, with rhythm, in which the text shines (...) the work of Carlos Martín on the scene and with the actors is once again at a very high point (...) Remarkable, as I said, is the work of the actresses (with an immeasurable Irene Alquézar) without restraint, but without exaggerations without detracting from theirs. (...) effective and timely music (work of Gonzalo Alonso) (...) also mention the work of Tatoño Perales in the lighting. Everything works like clockwork in favor of the root.

Yesterday the Teatro del Temple premiered its production of Lorca's 'Blood Wedding' at the Teatro Principal, directed by Carlos Martín. An unforgettable afternoon. Ana Sanagustín's production and costumes are spectacular and the actors do an incredible job (they all perform at a great level, but Irene Alquézar, Félix Martín and Minerva Arbués are simply masterful) with Lorca's wonderful text. Absolutely essential.
