Poncia
Starring Lolita Flores
Based on Federico García Lorca's The House of Bernarda Alba
In the midst of a fog storm, Poncia, Bernarda Alba's maid, prays for Adela's death. The house has been plunged into a sea of silence. Poncia speaks to herself and also to them, to Bernarda Alba and her daughters.
This text is based on the dialogues of the character Poncia in Federico García Lorca's play 'The House of Bernarda Alba'. In a profound analysis of the character, Luis Luque rescues Poncia's dialogues and transforms them into reflections, soliloquies, and conversations with ghosts and shadows. In this way, a new perspective emerges within the house. In the original play, we witness a succession of events that unfold in chronological order. Here, with this Poncia, they do not. She speaks after the shock of Adela's suicide. Everything happens after her death.
We listen to the voice of the maid to illuminate the dark corners of Lorca's work. Poncia speaks of suicide, freedom, guilt, class, education, and sex. And she speaks with all the force of a voice that has been mistreated and silenced. The soul of "La Poncia" opens up to insist on the need to share with others the idea of loving each other freely.
