Description
The Suitcase
Sergey Dovlatov
Russian-language performance
The Suitcase is about packing your whole life into a suitcase and keeping the warmth of memories when you're far from home. And that even in the most difficult times, we always have something that makes us stronger: memory, love, hope.
Leaving the Soviet Union for the United States, the hero takes only a small suitcase with him. Years later, he uncovers it and finds things that have become a reminder of the past. Each of them comes to life in the story: funny, sad, and poignant. These are stories about people, events, and feelings that once filled his life. Through them, the mosaic of the Soviet era unfolds before us, recognizable and native to all of us.
Dovlatov's brilliant sadness of memories, wry observations, and subtle metaphors are brought to life by the all-star cast. Alexey Agranovich, Alexey Kortnev, Semyon Treskunov, Valentin Samokhin, and Nina Shkara fill the stories with sincerity and warmth. The music created for the performance creates an incredible atmosphere, where laughter coexists with nostalgia, and simple stories become timeless themes about love, friendship, and the search for oneself.
