Fuga (1979, 20')
With this work, artist Eugènia Balcells invites us to reflect on the relationship between image, space, and time. She employs a technical device—a handheld Bolex camera—that allows the film to be advanced and rewound according to a script of precise spatial and temporal intervals. By positioning the camera at a fixed point in the center of a space (an interior) and rotating it at a constant height above the floor, she captures a 360-degree view of the room, divided into 12 sections like the face of a clock.
Indian Circle (1981, 26')
A video-performance documenting an action carried out by musician Peter Van Riper inside an enclosed room. The entire film—recorded in a single take and in real time—is structured around the interaction between the camera, the performance, and a specific space, thereby creating a complex relationship among these three elements.
Going through Languages (1981, 28')
Two screens: on the left, the lengthy process of selecting Miss Universe; on the right, the daily tasks of an ordinary woman. Two perspectives—the ever-fleeting world of glamour versus the reality of everyday life. A magnificent work that contrasts the roles imposed on women by a patriarchal society with the true nature of women.
