*Ghost in the Machine* is a compelling and highly relevant investigative documentary that uncovers the hidden history of artificial intelligence—not as a neutral system of algorithms, but as a technology shaped by racism, misogyny, eugenics, and power structures that were deeply entrenched long before AI became integrated into our daily lives. Rejecting the notion that AI is inevitable or objective, the film examines how myths of progress and efficiency have served to mask deeper political and cultural agendas, revealing the ideological foundations that underpin the systems currently transforming modern society.

Structured into eight chapters, the documentary blends historical research with contemporary analysis to address fundamental questions: Who built these systems? What values do they encode? And who do they benefit? Directed by Valerie Veatch—whose previous films, *Me @ The Zoo* (HBO) and *Love Child* (HBO), both premiered at Sundance and explored how emerging technologies reshape identity, power, and culture—*Ghost in the Machine* employs a bold yet accessible cinematic approach. It is as unsettling as it is revealing, offering a visceral understanding of a technology that now influences nearly every aspect of modern life.

This is not a film about machines; it is a film about power. *Ghost in the Machine* interrogates who creates AI, who profits from it, and who pays the price.

Valerie Veatch was born on April 13, 1985, in Seattle, Washington, USA. She is a producer and director known for *Me at the Zoo* (2012), *Love Child* (2014), and *Ghost in the Machine* (2026).
