A writer shuts himself away in a secluded house to write a novel about religious life during the colonial era. He is interrupted first by his son—a political activist—and later by his wife. His work chronicles the struggles a group of nuns faces with the bishop; the author becomes so deeply immersed in his text that he begins a romance with one of the novel's protagonists. All of this, in turn, is part of a film being shot.
