Description
For dance to be renewed, it is necessary to give talent a chance. This is what José Carlos Martínez did when, in 2022, he took over as director of the Paris Opera Ballet, a company with more than 300 years of history. By creating a company of young dancers, he was giving wings to the talents fresh out of the National School associated with the ballet itself, of which it is a training ground, while also opening the door to other young dancers from around the world eager to associate their name with the institution.
The Young Ballet, a breeding ground for new stars, has been a reality since October 2024, incorporating both established works and newly created pieces into its repertoire. Its 24 members, aged between 18 and 25, will offer a glimpse of this eclectic spirit at the Teatro de la Maestranza.
The program includes legendary figures such as Rudolf Nureyev performing Petipa's Don Quixote Suite; Maurice Béjart (Cantata 51, based on Bach's cantata) and George Balanchine (Allegro Brillante, based on Tchaikovsky) join more contemporary choreographic works, such as the one by Annabelle López Ochoa. It's an opportunity to witness the birth of future stars and see the fruits of talent and hard work.
