Two siblings move with their family to a residential neighborhood in Tokyo. There, while playing, making friends, and adapting to their new surroundings, they begin to discover the adult world around them. The shock comes when they observe their father's submissive attitude toward his boss, a revelation that challenges their admiration and confronts them, for the first time, with social hierarchies and the workings of power.

What begins as a lighthearted children's comedy evolves into a profound reflection on the loss of innocence, conformity, and social values. With his characteristic sensitivity, Yasujirō Ozu portrays childhood as a painful but inevitable learning experience, where the naive perspective is forced to mature.

This special screening is presented in a concert-style format, with live musical accompaniment by the Caspervek Ensemble, a quartet (flute, clarinet, piano, and percussion), who will provide the soundtrack to this gem of classic Japanese cinema.
