Lazarillo de Tormes deals with marginalization, hunger, and the harsh realities of childhood. The parallels between the world of the child who accompanies the blind man and the plight of so many children in the developing world who die of starvation are obvious. History repeats itself time and again. As is almost always the case, this situation is the consequence of a world of imbalances where resources are unequal. And it stems from a lack of awareness of the value of life. The play addresses a universal problem: today, too, our current desires revolve around ambition and power. It's like a metaphor that everyone understands; it's a world, a wellspring of life and meaning that guides you. It was born in a time of enormous imbalances between the official world of the Court and the real world, a time of hunger. And then, just as now, one cannot be happy in a wretched world, because the mistreated lives are connected to your own.
