Description
It has been nearly seven years since *Sanación*—María José Llergo’s debut album—shook up the flamenco landscape. Critics and audiences alike enthusiastically embraced the work of the Córdoba native, an artist deeply attuned to the times and reality she inhabits, yet equally sensitive to her inherited legacy. That first release carried the faint, resonant voice of her grandfather, Pepe Sánchez—the man who instilled in her a love for *cante* (flamenco singing) and a respect for tradition. Since then, every new album, song, and performance has demonstrated a healthy connection to her roots—a bond experienced as a commitment to her origins rather than a burden.
*Ultrabelleza* (2023) lived up to every expectation. By then, a Goya Award and her passionate public advocacy for Andalusian culture had secured her place among the most significant figures of "New Flamenco." Authentic and radiant, her voice blends the traditional *quejío* (flamenco wail) with soul, incorporates just the right touch of electronic music, and speaks to the world around her—addressing themes of diversity and freedom. Her grandfather Pepe passed away in 2025; María José bade him farewell, thanking him for "weaving your voice into my throat." Now, María José Llergo is bringing her sonic revolution to the stage. Following the impact of *Ultrabelleza*, the artist from Córdoba returns to perform *El Juego Tour*—a show designed to break boundaries, reconnect with her roots, and celebrate artistic freedom in its purest form.
