Talking about The Hangmen is talking about a full-fledged band. If you know them you know why, and if it is not the case you should know that this band from Los Angeles carries more than thirty years writing music history across its spectrum, with its angels and their demons. From record label contracts of large sums of money to total doom from drug addiction. It's impossible to talk about The Hangmen without mentioning Bryan Small. I actually know I could say that Bryan and The Hangmen are the same entity. It was he who in 1986 moved from his hometown of Montana to Los Angeles to form this band. A band that soon caught the attention of Keith Morris, singer of Black Flag / Circle Jerks, who went on to take over the direction of the band. They then signed an agreement with the prestigious record label Capitol Records, with whom they debuted giving birth to a self-titled album produced by Vic Maile from Motorhead. The next step was his signing for the DGC label (the newly formed subsidiary of David Geffen, one of the richest and most influential businessmen in the world of show), whose list of editions included The Nymphs and Nirvana, among others. In this case the new album by The Hangmen would be produced by Rob Younge, from Radio Birdman, and would bear the title Suicide Doors. However, this record never saw the light and was a turning point that precipitated the band towards the depths of hell. Thus began the excessive addiction to drugs. It was from hell that Bryan Small began to write and compose of new. And like a Phoenix The Hangmen reappeared from its ashes with a new work titled Metallic I.O.U. That catapulted him back to the stage on tour along with Social Distortion and Supersuckers. A season in which Small replaced SD guitarist Mike Ness, who would somehow give him back the favor producing his next album in 2007: In the city. "I feel like we're totally kindred souls," Small says when he talks about Mike Ness. Something that is explicitly explained when he adds that he “does not write together with other people, since he wants to be in control of everything ”. From that union arose a song titled Train, a composition created from the union of both talents. This work was followed by East of Western in 2012 and Cactusville, edited by the Acetate Records label in 2019.
