The dispute between the two families becomes a real war. In the very title chosen by Bellini, the names of the families overshadow those of the characters, while the conflict poisons his passion. Director Robert Carsen places the lyrical expression of these inextricably intertwined lives in an austere setting illuminated by their fiery love.
