The musical heritage of the Crown of Aragon

Advances in research and initiatives to disseminate the musical history shared by the territories of the former Crown of Aragon.

About this event The I International Congress The musical heritage of the Crown of Aragon, held in Valencia in 2019, was a pioneering initiative in the approach to the musical history shared by the territories that were part of this political and cultural entity whose existence lasted until the century XVIII. But its objectives went beyond the pure musicological debate, since it also proposed to encourage reflection on the paths that are currently useful to transmit the knowledge derived from research to other professionals and to society. Ultimately, it was about establishing a dialogue between the various agents that are part of the integral process of acquisition and transfer of knowledge, such as musicologists, historians, pedagogues, interpreters or communicators. The satisfactory results of this meeting have encouraged the organization of a second edition that continues to deepen this path, which will take place in Valencia between June 3 and 5, 2021.

After recapitulating the state of historical research at the 1st congress, this edition will present recent advances in research through twelve lectures, to which two of the sessions will be devoted. The first will be dedicated monographically to Jaime I and his time and the second to a selection of courtly contexts for music between the 15th and early 18th centuries in various places in the territories of the Crown. There will also be two sessions dedicated to the transfer of knowledge, education and dissemination with lectures and round tables, as well as other activities such as concerts, book presentations or a visit to the old monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes. Likewise, the congress is open to the presentation of free topic communications for researchers who wish to publicly transmit the latest research results in the space-time field of the ancient Crown of Aragon.
