BIBIANA FERNÁNDEZ STARS IN THIS VERSION OF JEAN GENET'S MASTERPIECE, LAS CRIADAS; A TRIBUTE TO THE GREAT SPANISH THEATER OF THE 20TH CENTURY
Director Pablo Quijano presents Las Criadas from the point of view of the Lady, a woman who, after having achieved fame in her youth, now finds herself at a crossroads: return to a world she no longer recognizes or withdraw from it completely?
Inspired by real events, this production shows us the psychological effects of censorship, from the point of view of a fascinating woman who lives sheltered in fantasy, after having suffered the ban on her most ambitious artistic project. Not having premiered her work led her to question her identity and distrust reality.
SYNOPSIS
María was a child prodigy of acting and today, at seventy years old, she lives retired from the stage. Her two sons, aspiring directors, want to convince her to return to acting. Not only has María not completely abandoned her vocation, but she continues clinging to a work that marked her and that was never performed: The Handmaids, by Jean Genet.
Her debut was frustrated in the 70s and María thinks that this fact deprived her of being an artist with capital letters, leaving her mired in a banal career. María's children have heard her interpret Genet's text at home since they were children and they want to put together a radically contemporary montage with her mother as the protagonist. They will end up becoming entangled in a thread of secrets and manipulation. This story is a ceremony about fiction as the best incentive to endure reality.
