Photography as a prologue. By Christian Lagata

Research workshop and photographic reflection COBWEB 2023

TELARAÑA is a project that works from two areas in transformation: art and education. It is a cycle of training workshops and artistic production where they experiment with different media that are used in contemporary expression and creation. The person who attends a COBWEB workshop comes to create, to generate, to produce, to manufacture, to compose, to build, to do, to learn.

In this third edition, the structure of TELARAÑA is based on five media linked to artistic production: video, sound, graphics, body and space. Each medium acts as a starting point, as a point of origin that ends up being mixed with other supports and techniques. They are part of the same conversation about the world. A total of 14 practical workshops with invited members and collectives from different fields: music, visual arts, theater, design or electronics.

Research workshop and photographic reflection

By Christian Lagata

The aim of this workshop is to create a space for research and reflection from photography towards other artistic disciplines. As the title of the workshop itself indicates, photography will be used as an excuse to collect "images", objects and elements that we find on our way in order to generate a cataloging system in which the found elements that originally belonged to that place and the elements that have been added later through the human being. With images taken and the objects collected, a series of assemblies will be carried out to produce a series of pieces that will later be scanned and reworked as an image. Going from the remixed object to the post-produced image, a series of collages will be generated that will be installed and with which they will work to make a small publication or fanzine.

About Christian Lagata Christian Lagata (Jerez de la Frontera, 1986) is a visual artist who has completed advanced studies in Image and Sound and a Master's in Contemporary Photography. He currently lives and works in Madrid. Lagata's work investigates the tensions between materiality and the morphology of productive environments such as industrial zones or urban concentrations and the different relationships of 'familiarity' (mnemonic, functional, aesthetic) that we establish with them. Beyond the logic of the objet trouvé, his work explores in certain elements of these environments the traces of their interactions (past, present or future) with humans, rethinking their socio-economic consideration of "rest" or "residue."

He has carried out different residences at the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Creation, C3A, Córdoba (2022 and 2018), Pico do Refugio, Sao Miguel, Azores (2021), Hangar Lisboa (2019), BilbaoArte Fundazioa Foundation and Mira Forum Oporto (2018). He has participated in different collective exhibitions such as Fui Piedra y perdí mi centro (C3A, 2022), Dialecto CA2M (2021), Between the forms that go towards the serpent and the forms that seek the crystal (CAAC, 2020), Between Debris and Things (CCCC, 2020) or his latest individual exhibition Una oscura euforia in Artnueve, Murcia (2023). His work is part of collections such as the Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo in Madrid (CA2M) or the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC), among others.
