Description
The shawls from Ahuirán, State of Michoacán, are recognized for the high quality of their materials dyed with natural dyes and the excellence of the work with which they are made. With a simple tool, called a backstrap loom, which consists of a strap placed around the waist of the weavers to hold the loom stretched out, some of the most beautiful and complex textiles in history can be made.
In this shawl workshop with Michoacán artisans, attendees will learn to create textiles based on the backstrap loom technique and will immerse themselves in some of the oldest textile traditions. They will learn step by step the process of making shawls, from how to prepare the backstrap loom with all its elements, the colors to dye the threads, the thread counting procedure to start the work... and they will be able to put this knowledge into practice, making use of the loom.
