Description
At first glance, The Magic Flute seems like a fairy tale. And it is, but as we know, all stories are much more complex than they appear. The impresario and singer Schikaneder wanted Mozart to compose an opera to premiere at the theater he managed in Vienna. Something simple that everyone could understand, full of catchy melodies, and, of course, with a role for him (the impresario) to shine. And so he gave him a libretto full of fantasy, which begins with a snake several meters long chasing the hero of this fable. The story of Tamino and Pamina, our protagonists, is a coming-of-age tale. Both will have to overcome various trials to make the transition from darkness to light. The result was so good that The Magic Flute became the composer's most resounding operatic success. It's a shame he died shortly after and didn't get to enjoy it... A co-production between several venues, including the Teatro de la Maestranza, this family-friendly show condenses all the key elements and beauty of one of the most perfect operas ever written into just one hour.
