A classic of Latin American cinema
Jon Mraz's study of Memorias del subdesarrollo presents a thorough and uncompromising vision of Tomás Gutiérrez Alea's film.
In the pages of his book we witness the social and ideological environment that surrounds this film set in the early years of the Cuban Revolution, with an in-depth analysis of this era that marked a milestone in social culture, politics , cinematographic and artistic of all Spanish-American societies.
Memorias del subdesarrollo explains how, when the Castro revolution broke out, a bourgeois decided to stay in Cuba and analyze the entire revolutionary process, confronting it with his ideas. The film, which includes some documentary footage from the first years of the Cuban revolution, is one of the major titles of the director of Fresa y chocolate and of Latin American cinematography in general.
