Description
TANIT, the new film by Pep Garrido, produced by Atiende Films and DACSA Produccions, brings to the screen one of the most beloved young adult novels in Catalan literature, the eponymous story by Núria Albó, winner of the Vaixell de Vapor Prize in 1984 and read by generations of readers.
The film will have its world premiere at the D’A Film Festival Barcelona in the Talents section, where it is the only Spanish-produced feature film, and will soon be released in theaters as one of the season's leading family films.
The extraordinary lead actress, Dolça Salvans Portell, chosen from over 300 hopefuls, makes her debut in a starring role in a witch's tale set in the Montseny forests.
Synopsis:
Deep in the Montseny mountains, young Tanit roams freely because she has no other choice: a high-risk pregnancy forces her mother to rest. One day, while searching for her dog Xuc in the forest, Tanit encounters Grandmother Perona, an old woman who lives isolated in the woods and whom everyone mistakes for a witch. Tanit is initiated into the secrets of the forest by her, but the grandmother's health deteriorates rapidly, jeopardizing her wild way of life.
The discovery of Dolça and the music of Clara Peya
One of the film's pillars is its extraordinary young protagonist, Dolça Salvans Portell, a ten-year-old girl found after an extensive casting process throughout the Catalan Montseny region, in which more than 300 girls participated. Dolça lives in Viladrau, in a farmhouse in the middle of the forest, and her natural connection with the environment and unique personality made her an immediate revelation for the film crew.
The cast is rounded out by Isabel Rocatti, in the role of Grandmother Perona; Sara Espígul; and Sergio Caballero, as Tanit's father. And Núria Molas, a cattle farmer from Montseny, discovered while the crew was scouting locations, makes her film debut playing Aunt Mercè.
Also noteworthy is the extraordinary soundtrack composed by Clara Peya.
