Kurak

Description

Kurak

Based on true events, several stories concerning the marginalization of women are closely intertwined—influencing one another and unfolding within the context of the traditional patriarchal society of present-day Kyrgyzstan—ultimately leading to a series of tragic outcomes. Despite its status as a "secular state," the reality of contemporary Kyrgyzstan is marked by violence, hypocrisy, and the widespread violation of women's rights; women remain a socially vulnerable segment of the population. Amidst aggressive propaganda promoting patriarchal ideologies and radical religious views, feminist ideas in Kyrgyzstan are often conflated with the promotion of LGBTQ+ communities and face open criticism. Furthermore, the judicial system frequently sides with murderers and rapists.
