Description
In January 1993, Jean-Claude Romand killed his wife, his children, his parents, his dog and tried to commit suicide, without succeeding. During the next two days it became known that he was not a doctor, as everyone believed, nor was he a researcher for the World Health Organization, and that everything that was known about his life was a lie. He was not a doctor or anything else: neither a spy, nor an arms or organ trafficker, as was initially thought, so difficult to admit that someone could be anything. He spent his days in the car, in the service areas of the highways, and when he realized that he was about to be discovered, he preferred to kill his enemies rather than face their gazes. The French writer Emmnuel Carrère read the first articles about the case in the newspaper "Liberation" and immediately decided to write a book, his first non-fiction book. The story of a criminal told in the first person: that of Emmanuel Carrère himself.
