Thought Biennial 2026

From October 13 to 18, Barcelona held a new edition of the Biennial of Thought which, with the motto “Unleashing the present”, invites us to rethink the present of the cities and to seek answers to the big questions that current societies are asking.

The present is the temps that ens claims. Not the passat, which he looks at mass sovint with nostalgia, nor the future, which he imagines excessively apocalyptic, but the time that he shared, marked by reptes that are, here, completely indefugible. In cities, these reptes – and the tensions they imply – are more evident. Tanmateix, cities can also ask for alternatives.

The 2026 Biennale proposes to think about what's here and what's here, that is, the present and the cities in a celebration that turns out to be an invitation to make the urban square a public, shared square. Therefore, try to answer the questions that create the program of this edition: how to promote solidarity in the face of the attacks of neoliberalism?; Who is the city that could become a bastion of democratic resistance against authoritarianism? How can we last a terme practices that millionin the material and symbolic conditions of our life in the city?

Here is the latest objective of the 2026 Biennale: tempt responses to these questions. I am confident that plural dialogue is capable of creating solidarity and unforeseen alliances. There is also the conviction that informed, critical and collective thinking is essential to protect democracy and human rights. Trigger the present, without increasing the ahir or waiting for the end.
