Description
In Barcelona in 1979, after 2 years combining solo performances and with his first group (Chocopolvo), Carlos Segarra founded LOS REBELDES together with Aurelio Morata and Moisés Sorolla. His irruption on the Barcelona music scene took an audience accustomed to Layetano jazz and salsa by surprise, and they quickly dismissed LOS REBELDES as retrograde Martians. But very soon the strength of their live show led them to open for figures like Chuck Berry, The Ramones and Mike Olfield, and soon after they signed with a multinational to record their first album, the historic “Cervezas, chicas y rockabilly”.
In these 40-year career, LOS REBELDES have close to one million records sold and are listed in rock encyclopedias as the first and most important rockabilly band on the Spanish music scene. Over time, his compositions have opened up to other influences such as soul, surf or swing, setting up his own style very marked by the unmistakable voice of Carlos Segarra. In any case, when it comes to labeling, the most accurate thing would be to say that their music is “just rock&roll”.
