Municipal Bethlehem

The Association of Nativity Scene Makers of Madrid has designed and produced the landscape and scenographic composition of the 2022 Municipal Nativity Scene of the Madrid City Council, an original work by the artisan José Luis Mayo, with Hebrew-style figures. The great novelty of this year is its circular morphology, which allows its observation from any point of view. An innovation that is also a huge design challenge since the scenery is continuous and visible by arch sets and the scenes related to the Nativity have a special catechetical significance. The Municipal Nativity Scene of Madrid is made up of 200 unique figures and nearly 20 buildings that stand out for their realism and attention to detail, accompanied by a faithful landscape recreation. In the work you can appreciate the perfect condition of the set thanks to its recent restoration, carried out by craftsmen and technicians dedicated to its conservation. You can see the traditional scenes of trades, such as the blacksmith, the carpenter, the shepherd or the miller and domestic scenes, such as cooking or delousing children; following the historical sequence of events: the Annunciation of the Virgin by the Archangel Gabriel in a public fountain at the foot of Herod's castle, the Search for an inn, the Annunciation to the shepherds, who spend the night in a cave to guard their flocks; the great Parade of the Magi that approaches Bethlehem to attend the final scene, the Nativity with shepherds who adore Jesus. The final scene is the flight to Egypt through a path that skirts a large waterfall whose waters end calmly in the river that bathes the town of Bethlehem.
