Synopsis: After eight centuries of struggle, in 1492, the Catholic Monarchs achieved the unification of most of the Iberian kingdoms and embarked on the most ambitious adventure in history: the discovery of a New World, its evangelization, and the projection of European culture across the ocean. Spain would thus come to dominate for three centuries a vast territory stretching from British Columbia to Tierra del Fuego, where a society more prosperous than that existing in Europe itself would emerge. This documentary film shows us, through Cartagena de Indias, what that enterprise was like: the lust for treasure, the attacks of corsairs and pirates, the fleets of galleons and the trafficking of slaves.
