Architect Hashim Sarkis, degà of the School of Architecture of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), reflects on the work of Ignasi Solà-Morales and highlights the current validity in a conference that inaugurates the cycle of tribute to the Catalan architect starting from the vint-i-cinc anys of his death.
In this session, Hashim Sarkis explores some of the key highlights of the work of Ignasi Solà-Morales, of which this year 2026 commemorates the fifth and fifth anniversary of his death. From the reflection on new urban morphologies or the urgency of rethinking architectural heritage, in order to the role of architects in the public sphere and the way in which the interaction between theory and history can serve to promote critical architectural practices, this session will highlight the validity of the architectural thought of Solà-Morales avui.
This conference inaugurates the series “Critical Perspectives on Contemporary Architecture: the Arrivals of Ignasi Solà-Morales”, which runs for a term in different institutions in Barcelona.
This activity is part of the Barcelona 2026 program, World Capital of Architecture.
