Presenting the death of George Orwell, journalists Mariam Barghouti, Zeinab Salih and Laila Al-Arian are invited to bear witness to our times and to make visible the stories condemned to obliteration. Together, reflect on the role of journalism in conflict zones, media silence and the unequal functioning of global attention.
Journalism is present in all geographies. Ask questions, gather testimonies and build your own stories. Malgrat això, many human experiences lived under the long shadow of silence, but not all the indrets of the planet receive the attention. There are fears that they will always matter, while none of the others are a note on the bottom of the page. How is a conflict turned into a simple note? What is journalism left if it does not focus on the dead angles? How will the future be shaped by the stories that remain on the sidelines?

The Palestinian journalist Mariam Barghouti, current CCCB resident, opens the cycle with a conference on the role of testimony and language in the power of power (May 11). The reflection continues between our conversations, with the Sudanese investigative journalist Zeinab Salih (June 10) and the documentary producer and filmmaker Laila Al-Arian (June 17), speaking about the practices, the silences and the omissions that condemn certain histories and territories to obscurity.

This will also include the classic Rutes per la Barcelona d'Orwell, the screening of the film "Hommage à la Catalogne" by director Frédéric Goldbronn, and the activity "Camus-Orwell: a day-long convert" that will be presented to the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona.

This cycle is part of Resident CCCB, the CCCB's international residency program in collaboration with the UOC and the financing of the MIR-PUIG Private Foundation.
