Madrid Urban Sports is holding its second edition from 8 to 10 October 2021 at Madrid Río-Matadero (in 2020, it was held virtually from 11 to 28 November). It is a festival that combines street sport with music, exhibitions and urban art. The event will include international competitions and national heats, with top sportsmen and women from all of the continents, as well as young local promises.

Madrid takes over from Tokyo with Madrid Urban Sports (MUS), bringing together top international athletes from scooter, roller freestyle, breaking, skateboarding and BMX, coinciding with the year marked by the debut of the latter two disciplines at the Olympics in Japan.

This event, which has the support of Madrid City Council and the Business Forum, is a firm commitment to becoming the epicentre of urban sport and culture and hence positioning the city as a benchmark of world sport with a view to the World Capital of Sport 2022.

It is a multi-sport event in which great names like Daniel Dhers will participate, who will be appearing after becoming one of the first Olympic medallists ever in the BMX discipline. Danny León and Julia Benedetti will also be there, having made their debut in Tokyo as representatives of the Spanish skateboarding team. There will also be well-known names from urban sport, confirming an elite round-up from more than 20 different nationalities. Visitors will also be able to find open spaces to practice or get a taste for sports like skating, BMX, scooter, among others.

Urban art, music and activities for the public

In parallel to the competitions, Madrid Urban Sports will have a wide cultural offer, opting for flagship genres of urban music, such as rap and trap, and there will be a space devoted to art, where Madrid’s graffiti artists will show off their creativity.

The most significant activity will be Young Blood, where up and coming young talent from the local scene will get together on stage to show off their best improvisation talent to the rhythm of urban music. The winners will have the opportunity to challenge the top names from the FMS (Freestyle Master Series) in a final duel.

During the breaks between sporting events, music will also be the main feature, with performances by Madrid’s renowned rap and trap artists. There will be a 15-minute showcase, integrating music and sport in the same space.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in the activities in Zona Enjoy, a space designed for all ages based on today’s urban trends. They will be able to do activities, such as pump track, wood wave, mini ramps, parkour, among others, and a Kids Park will be set up.
