Out of Frame. Works by Rineke Dijkstra and Philippe Parreno
February 5 - October 26, 2025 The joint exhibition of Rineke Dijkstra's video installation Night Watching and Philippe Parreno's immersive film The Deaf Man's Villa offers a glimpse into the art of the past through interaction with the public.

Two audiovisual works from the ”la Caixa” Foundation's Contemporary Art Collection interpret Goya's Black Paintings and Rembrandt's Night Watch.
Rineke Dijkstra and Philippe Parreno offer a different approach to these works.

“I ALWAYS LOOK CAREFULLY FOR THOSE MOMENTS WHEN PEOPLE ARE UNPREPARED.” RINEKE DIJKSTRA

“A SLEIGHT OF HAND GAME BETWEEN A SPACE THAT LOSES ITSELF, PLAYING AT BEING AN IMAGE, AND IMAGES THAT TRY TO PRODUCE A SPACE.” PHILIPPE PARRENO
Recently, the ”la Caixa” Foundation acquired two audiovisual works for its Contemporary Art Collection that allow a unique approach to Goya's black paintings and Rembrandt's Night Watch.

Their joint exhibition offers a look at the art of the past through interaction with the public. Night Watching, by Rineke Dijkstra, is a video installation that records the comments of different people as they observe Rembrandt's Night Watch, without us ever seeing it. Some people connect the painting to their own lives or examine it in an art historical context. On the other hand, the immersive film The Deaf Man's House, by Philippe Parreno, takes us to the house where Goya created his black paintings, recreating a space that no longer exists.
