Tenim disset anys
A collective portrait

What does it mean to have 17 disset anys, avui? In this exhibition, more than three hundred young people explore who they are, what they feel and how they see the world through photography, cinema and paraula.
«Tenim disset anys. A collective portrait is a journey through the lives, experiences and concerns of young people who have been portrayed and photographed in their most appropriate environment. At the exhibition you can see photographs, films and texts in the first person, genuine views that escape the prejudices of adults and the usual codes of representation of adolescence.

The exhibition is inspired by the portraits that the filmmaker Johan van der Keuken took with his group of friends who had been there since 1955. Van der Keuken's photographs are exhibited for the first time in Barcelona on the occasion of the exhibition and they dialogue with the creations that the young people have created.

For two years, groups of students from institutes in Catalonia, Lithuania and Romania have participated in photographic and artistic creation workshops to explore other ways of portraying and showing themselves. This European project, promoted by the Association A Bao A Qu, has invited young people to take photographs, films and writings, accompanied by photographers, visual artists, filmmakers and playwrights Ingrid Ferrer, Tanit Plana, Mònica Roselló and Berta Vicente Salas, Xavi Bobés, Albert Coma, Jaume Claret Muxart, Raquel Cors Munt, Pep Garrido, Mikel Gurrea, Martí Madaula, Sergi Portabella, Jaime Puertas Castillo and Núria Inés (Tinta Fina). The Catalan institutes that have participated in the project are Bellvitge (l'Hospitalet de Llobregat), Doctor Puigvert (Barcelona), Les Aimerigues (Terrassa), Angeleta Ferrer (Barcelona), Infanta Isabel d'Aragó (Barcelona), Maria Espinalt (Barcelona), Miquel Tarradell (Barcelona) and ITAEB (Barcelona).

The idea and development have been created by Núria Aidelman, Laia Colell, Anna Fabra and Agnès Sebastià (A Bao A Qu).

In parallel to the exhibition "Tenim disset anys", the Filmoteca de Catalunya has programmed, from March 4 to April 30, a retrospective series dedicated to the filmmaker Johan van der Keuken, with two-month long screenings that explore his latest cinematographic and documentary work.
